Mackay to Brampton Island

Sailing Log Mackay- Brampton Island

You may wonder why I don’t put in all the nautical ship stats on these logs is that I want the chronical more of our travels rather than the yachts position, winds, tides, and sailing performance.

That’s the Captains Log job.

Mackay marina, we could not wait to get off the boat and have a long shower do washing and have a meal at the local pub.

Refreshed, clean and rested did my blogs whilst Terry ripped up floor boards looking for the slow leak we have in our pressurised water system?  Found two bits & parts to replace.

Re stocked up in the morning and Teza worked on the boat parts replacement and installation,  unfortunately there is still a leak somewhere on the boat but we can manage water usage and pumps until we get to Airlie, next week and have a couple of days to do maintenance.

Arrived at Brampton in the afternoon, dropped anchor and got the tender off only to discover that we had a slow leak in the new inflatable tender. Bugger!!

Jacqui and Terry took to shore and put a patch on the hole. We suspect the small tear was from Digby Island when Teza went to look for oysters on the rocks.

Whilst the patch glue on the mended tender was drying, Jacqui went up a coconut tree which she learned to do when she was 10 years old from the Fijian village boys where we stayed on a cultural village stay with the girls. She did fall down but managed to get 4 green coconuts for our next sundowner cocktails.

Capt. Teza relaxing and reading
Today is a lay day at Brampton, settling in our guests Jacqui & David.  Relax time reading books,  island walks, cooking scones and a lamb dinner complete with apple crumble in the oven as I write my blog diary.
Day 12 Sundowner Salted Caramel Martini

Brampton Island resort now lays abandon after a cyclone in 2010.  Rooms are still set up, jet skies and paddle boats left where they were parked up. It is such a beautiful place, easy distance from mainland, small lookout  hills and walking tracks and sheltered bays.  It’s sad that our domestic tourism dollars go overseas when we have such beauty in our backyard.

Sundowners  again with a brilliant sunset.

Tomorrow we head off somewhere, decision has not been made yet and we will access the prevailing winds but I think it will be in the Lindeman Island Group.
